Happy Easter (or Annual Non-denominational Chocolate Egg Festival, if you are so inclined)! We hope you’re enjoying your mid-semester break. Since we’re not running any events this week, we’re sending you a selection of events and jobs (in case you’re bored, or interested in honing your procrastination skills to such an extent that you’re actually productive while still managing to put off that assignment for another week).

We’ll be back after the break with a vengeance: our hack sessions will start again, beginning with an introduction to Git.

With love,

No doubt you’re laden with assessments now and looking forward to the break ahead. And you’re probably hungry to boot. Sate yourself at our Tuesday BBQ and kick off your midsem break with drinks on us! Our Mid-semester Drinks Night is on Thursday (5:30pm at Hermann’s Bar), just before SUEUA’s Beer N Bangers. Will it be a night of shameless revelry? A chance to chase the elusive Ballmer peak as you get started on an assignment? The night you find out where that mysterious door in the SIT undergrad lounge leads? The path you take is up to you, but we wish you luck with whatever you choose. Especially if it’s the last one.

Speaking of chosen paths, welcome to the freshly-elected execs, whose paths have merged with ours! From left to right, they are Dorian Kersch (International Student Representative), Christina Camilleri (First Year Representative), and Barath Kannan (Events Coordinator). Here they are with President Sebastian:

Feel free to contact them (or any of us, really) with suggestions for events or if you have any questions or problems.

With love,
SUITS Exec
Some say the door leads to Narnia, others say the Aperture Science Enrichment Center. We’re inclined to believe it’s Mordor, because one does not simply walk into it.

SUITS Mid-semester Drinks Night

Week 3: It’s a big ‘un!

By now you should’ve figured out what units you’re doing this semester. Quite possibly they’re a confused mishmash of subjects that will no doubt land you a job someday, but you just don’t know what. Or maybe you’re the opposite: you’ve known what you’ve wanted to do since you wrote your first “Hello, world!” program. Either way, this week is filled with careers events, so it’s the perfect time to scope out all the opportunities open to you, be they internships, graduate roles or vacation work.

We’re kicking things off with a Palantir-sponsored BBQ on Tuesday (free to everyone, even non-Access card holders!), where you can chat with a Palantir engineer, James Cleary, about their work. On Wednesday will be the Engineering and Information Technologies Careers Fair in the Seymour Centre, and on Thursday Palantir will be holding a talk on how they’re revolutionising the analysis of hard and important problems that face our world today. And all this will be followed by The Big Meet (previously advertised) on Friday. And then on Monday next week will be the Local. Global. Connected. Careers Fair. Whew.

Unfortunately, all the events have squeezed out our regular events, so we’re only running our Tuesday BBQ and Wednesday Games Night this week. Don’t worry, you’ll be too busy planning your career to miss us. In the meantime, see if you can find yourself in this photo from the Meet and Greet last week:

Don’t forget to nominate yourself for an exec position! We need a new Events Coordinator (students from second year and above only), First Year Representative (first year students only) and International Representative (international students only), and we’ll be electing them at our General Meeting next Wednesday.

With love,
SUITS Exec
Our little members are all growing up so fast *sniffle*

Also on TUESDAY (NOT Wednesday, as was previously planned) is our First Years Meet and Greet, an informal evening for IT newcomers to meet the lecturers and tutors they will be working with throughout their degree and chat over free pizza. Here’s your chance to make amends with your lecturer and bond over your common hatred of wet socks. Despite the name, students from other years are also welcome.
